Tape Drive Configuration with Netapp

Have done Upgrade of Netapp from 7.2.2 to 7.2.6.1p8 . It was a nice experience . Last week was very hectic with many major Global activities. Upgradation of netapp , DC shutdown and solving the by products of these activities a major task.

Configuration of tape drives to netapp was also a good experience.
Configuring Tape Drives to Netapp :
Migration of Netbackup to Networker - so there was a requirement for the reconfiguration of Tape drives.
Advanatage of Netapp is it automatically detects the tape drives.

There are two ways of configuring the tape drives .
1. we can directly attach the tape drives
2. Introducing a fabric in between the Netapp and Tape.
We need to find out how many ports are available on the netapp box . First and then ask the site services guys(Hands & Eyes ) team to connect the tape drives to the free ports .

The free ports on the netapp can be found by using the Command "SYSCONFIG"
Normally we have FC adapters.
When directly attaching the Tape drives to the Netapp - we can attach only one drive for a single adapter. When use the fabric in between we can zone the adapter to the two switch ports for which the tape drives are connected to the two ports. I took two tape drives as example.

To find out the tape drives connected to the netapp we can use "storage show tape"
...

Please post your comments and i have intentionally skipped many points here. So that i can find out how the ideas are flowing and what are the doubts that normally float in mind.
Thanks,
Maddy
